  • Videos are changing rapidly the way people search. These videos are a big way to get content into Google search and Google discover. It is not YouTube anymore as Google adds video reports in search console. Google has added two new reports in search console that provide site owners with more data on video search results.

    These reports are designed to help the site owners learn more about the performance of video content in search results and identifying ways to improve video markup.  Making sure that the videos perform well in search can lead to increased traffic and conversion of your business. These reports will help you understand how well your videos are performing in search results and will help you fix issues with your videos displaying in Google Search.

    Currently, there are three main ways that searchers come across videos in Google, which are- on the main search results, in the videos tab, and on suggested content in the Google discover feed.

    Video performance report

    In the Google search console, you can see how your videos will perform by going to the performance report and clicking search appearance. If you are interested in going into more detail, you can also check the keywords your videos appeared for and the specific pages that appeared. This data would be useful as you can know the exact keyword to optimize your video content.

    Video enhancements

    Structured data is not considered as a ranking factor but it is crucial because it can enhance your video in the search results to make them more appealing to the searches. Sites that use structured data to mark up their videos will now see a report called videos.

    The video report shows errors and warnings for markup implemented on a website. In addition to identifying errors, the videos report can be used to validate a fix when any error is resolved by triggering Google to re-crawl the affected page.

    Videos are changing the way webmasters create content. It basically helps searchers get more engaged and increase their dwell time. Currently, video snippet is dominated by YouTube videos and this update to video content will help webmasters who are publishing videos on their own website get their videos in the search results and draw more clicks.

    The update will encourage more and more video publishers to use their own platforms when uploading videos that they create and this will help searchers to see a more diversified video search results.
