Google Says: Improve Low Quality Content, Don’t Delete It

SEO Quality Content

Content or rather high-quality content has always been a big deal for every search professional. We all know and have seen how much quality content can affect the rankings of a website on search engine result pages. In an urge to publish new content frequently, some SEO professionals fall into the trap of posting low-quality thin content which ultimately puts a negative effect on the SEO worth of a website.

Under such a situation, many start deleting the low-quality content posted across the web to reverse the damage. However, Google’s John Mueller has cleared up any confusion around what to do with low-quality content during a Google Webmaster Hangout.

First of all let us understand what Mueller means with low-quality content:

“So, in general, when it comes to low-quality content that’s something where we see your website is providing something but it’s not really that fantastic.”

According to Mueller, there are two approaches to deal with the situation. He says don’t jump to the conclusion that the content should be deleted. The best solution is to keep the content where it is and improve upon it.

“There are two approaches to tackling this. On one hand you can improve your content, and from my point of view if you can improve your content that’s probably the best approach possible.”

Review your content and analyse why you published it in the first place. If it has a purpose then make sure it adds value.

“You clearly had a reason for putting this out, now be serious about the content you put out and make sure it’s useful.”

However, Mueller adds that there may be extenuating circumstances where deleting the content is a better option. If it is not possible for you improve on low-quality content, the best option is to delete it.

So if you have low-quality content on your site that can be improved upon — do it. If you can’t, get rid of it.
